Scoop Up the Poop!
Feeling anxious to get outside and enjoy the springtime weather? Plan to join your neighbors, fellow students, Town staff and other “Stream Teams” at Spring Up the Creek! This year’s event is on Saturday, May 6.
Big changes this year!
Due to the construction at Festival Park, this years’ event will be held in the far north parking lot of Douglas County High School.
8-9 a.m. – Registration / Free Breakfast and Coffee / Fun Activities
9-11 a.m. – Clean-up
Volunteers will be given gloves, bags, poop scoops, and possible transportation to different area creeks and trails. Teens who want their work to count toward community service hours must bring a community service waiver already signed by their parents.
What’s the scoop on poop?
In addition to cleaning up trash this year, we are cleaning up dog waste. Volunteers are not required to “scoop up the poop”, but it will be an option for our volunteers who are over-achievers! Not only is dog poop yucky, it can contaminate stormwater run-off, ending up in our creeks, reservoirs and water supply. Dog waste contains harmful amounts of nitrogen, which may spread noxious weeds. In addition, it can spread worms and other parasites,
as well as many different illnesses and diseases (to people and animals). Dog owners are required by law to clean-up
their dogs’ waste, and can be fined for failing to do so.
Please note: In case of bad weather, the event back-up date is Saturday, May 20.
