Castle Rock is known for its small-town charm, family-friendly community events and abundant parks, trails and open space. The beautiful trails, well-planned parks and ample open space are some of the Town’s most prominent features.

The Town boasts 20 developed parks; about 5,800 acres of open space (roughly half of which is owned by the Town); and nearly 75 miles of trails.

The National Gold Medal-winning Parks and Recreation Department maintains those properties as well as Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course (a top-awarded, Jim Engh 18-hole course), an 84,000-square-foot Recreation Center and the new 60,000-square-foot Miller Activity Complex at Philip S. Miller Park.

Challenge Hill and Trails

The 7.4 mile native-surface trail network consists of single-track trails divided into four different, but interconnected, loops with 1.2 miles of paved accessible segments in the active park area near the Miller Activity Complex, the MAC. The trails explore all the valleys, knolls and high points of this 270-acre site. A unique feature on the site is the Challenge Hill, will 200 timber steps that climb 178 feet in elevation, similar to the Manitou Springs Incline. Bikes are not recommended on the challenge hill.

Miller Activity Complex

We are pleased to present the crowning jewel of the 270-acre Philip S. Miller Park. The Miller Activity Complex, or MAC for short, is the Town’s newest recreational facility. Come explore the unique activities this facility offers.

Ridgeline Open Space

These soft-surface trails travel through valleys and ridgelines of the 370-acre open space property. Visitors can take in views of the Front Range to the west and the Town below as they traverse open grasslands and dense Gambel oak.The Town of Castle Rock recently connected the various sections of this trail into a ten mile loop. e prepared for an awesome roller coaster of a ride, but do be careful and keep your speed in check as you’ll likely encounter many other trail users (and some blind corners).

Rock Park

The main attraction in our charming town for obvious reasons is Rock Park. Visitors can climb this historic landmark through a looped, single-track trail where you can take in panoramic views of Downtown Castle Rock, the Interstate 25 corridor, Pikes Peak and the Front Range. The iconic “Rock” is visible from 50 miles away on a clear day. The park serves a high oasis away from the suburban hustle below and is a “must do” for those new to town. Please use caution when navigating the uneven terrain of this relatively short but steep climb as there is a 370-foot elevation difference from bottom to top (6,220 feet to 6,590 feet).

Castle Rock Recreation Center

The Castle Rock Recreation Center offers a wide variety of amenities and programs. From water slides to racquetball and fitness boot camps to art and pottery classes, they offer something for everyone.
Services include fitness programs, weights, cardiovascular equipment, swimming, room rentals, birthday parties and classes of all kinds. In 2012, the Castle Rock Recreation Center was included in Colorado Community Media’s Best of the Best publication as the “best place to take kids.”

Castle Rock Competes

With countless programs and opportunities to satisfy your competitive spirit, the athletic enthusiast can shine in this town. The Athletics Division offers a full array of programs at the Recreation Center and at Castle Rock parks and fields. Competitive/Recreational Programs are offer for Youth Soccer-Castle Rock Storm and Youth Football, Baseball, Softball, Basketball,Volleyball and Cheer-DC Dolphins, Castle Rock also offers a multitude of programs that include youth and adult leagues in a variety of sports and this list should not be considered all inclusive. In addition, the town offers multiple indoor and outdoor swimming facilities for the aquatic athletes as well.

DC Dolphins Youth Sports

DC Dolphin Youth Sports is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to the development of young athletes throughout Douglas County, Colorado. As one of the largest and the fastest growing sports organizations in the region, DC Dolphins remains devoted to the youth and to the community. DC Dolphins has been in existence for over 30 years and participates in cooperation with the Arapahoe Youth League (AYL), the largest sports league in Colorado.

Gold Crown Basketball

Gold Crown Foundation, a Colorado nonprofit 501c3, offers youth sports and education programs to nearly 20,000 boys and girls annually throughout Colorado and the surrounding states. Founded in 1986 by former Denver Nugget player and coach, Bill Hanzlik, and his partner Ray Baker, Gold Crown Foundation’s mission statement is “Educating Youth and Community Through Sports and Enrichment”. Through our Basketball, Volleyball, Golf, Lacrosse, and Educational Programs, we teach youth life skills and we grant almost $100,000 in scholarships annually to kids ages 8-18.”
