Longhorn steers from Searle Ranch, which also drive down downtown Denver for the National Western Stock Show each year, will make their way down Perry Street in downtown Castle Rock. Western Heritage Welcome Cattle Drive
Castle Rock is a thriving community, and the Town’s western heritage is alive and well. Don’t miss a weekend of activities to celebrate Douglas County’s history and honor a longstanding tradition: the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo. The Cattle Drive kicks off the celebration.
During the 1800s, large herds of Longhorn cattle were driven through Colorado. The route, known as the “Goodnight-Loving Trail,” started in west Texas and passed through our area on the way to the stockyards in Denver and on to Wyoming. This event helps honor that heritage.
The Rocky Mountain Indigenous Dancers, made up of members of tribes from across the plains, return this year to lead the cattle drive with a captivating processional performance.
After the cattle drive, the fun continues at Festival Park. See additional performances by the Rocky Mountain Indigenous Dancers, take an old-time photo with the family, grab delicious food truck fare and enjoy entertainment for all ages!
