Castle Rock is known for its small-town charm, family-friendly community events and abundant parks, trails and open space. The beautiful trails, well-planned parks and ample open space are some of the Town’s most prominent features.
From scenic trails and picnic spots to playgrounds and athletic fields, our parks offer the ideal setting to connect with nature, stay active, and create lasting memories with family and friends. The Town boasts 60 developed parks; about 6,900 acres of open space (roughly half of which is owned by the Town); and nearly 130 miles of trails.
The National Gold Medal-winning Parks and Recreation Department maintains many of those properties as well as Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course (a top-awarded, Jim Engh 18-hole course), an 84,000-square-foot Recreation Center and celebrating 10 years this October the 60,000-square-foot Miller Activity Complex at Philip S. Miller Park.
Challenge
Hill
& Trails
The 7.4 mile native-surface trail network consists of single-track trails divided into four different, but interconnected, loops with 1.2 miles of paved accessible segments in the active park area near the Miller Activity Complex, the MAC.
The trails explore all the valleys, knolls and high points of this 270-acre site. A unique feature on the site is the Challenge Hill, with 200 timber steps that climb 178 feet in elevation, similar to the Manitou Springs Incline. Bikes are not recommended on the challenge hill.
Miller
Activity Complex
We are pleased to present the crowning jewel of the 270-acre Philip S. Miller Park. The Miller Activity Complex, or MAC for short, is the Town’s newest recreational facility. Come explore the unique activities this facility offers.
Amenities Include:
- Indoor leisure pool with slide
- 4 lap lanes (25 yard)
- 2 party rooms adjacent to the pool
- Trampoline play area
- Children’s play structure
- Synthetic Indoor fields
- Batting cages
As a nature lover, the parks in Castle Rock are my sanctuary. Each visit is a new adventure, whether I'm hiking the scenic trails, enjoying a picnic with friends, or simply soaking in the breathtaking views. It's my perfect escape from the hustle and bustle.
Featured Activities
Ridgeline Open Space
These soft-surface trails travel through valleys and ridgelines of the 370-acre open space property. Visitors can take in views of the Front Range to the west and the Town below as they traverse open grasslands and dense Gambel oak. The Town of Castle Rock recently connected the various sections of this trail into a ten mile loop. Be prepared for an awesome roller coaster of a ride, but do be careful and keep your speed in check as you’ll likely encounter many other trail users (and some blind corners).
Rock Park
The main attraction in our charming town for obvious reasons is Rock Park. Visitors can climb this historic landmark through a looped, single-track trail where you can take in panoramic views of Downtown Castle Rock, the Interstate 25 corridor, Pikes Peak and the Front Range. The iconic “Rock” is visible from 50 miles away on a clear day. The park serves as a high oasis away from the suburban hustle below and is a “must do” for those new to town. Please use caution when navigating the uneven terrain of this relatively short but steep climb as there is a 370-foot elevation difference from bottom to top (6,220 feet to 6,590 feet).
