The recent reimagination of Festival Park transformed the heart of Downtown into an even more magical place for the community to gather.
Many special moments are celebrated there, from finishing 5Ks to exchanging wedding vows. The park exudes Castle Rock’s community spirit and provides a place for neighbors to enjoy the outdoors together all year long.
These and other aspects of Festival Park helped it bring home honors in two awards programs during 2018.
The Colorado Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects gave the park project a Merit Award in the category Design over $500,000 Construction Budget.
The design of Festival Park incorporated better access to Plum Creek and its trail network and accommodated a greater variety and quantity of community events. New features added in the redesign include the splash play water feature, shade structure and fire pits the community has come to enjoy.
Adding onto the honors for the park, the project also won the Landscape/Urban Development award in the 2018 Best Projects competition for Engineering News-Record – an industry publication. Those awards recognize the best projects in the four-state region consisting of Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota.
“We are proud to have Festival Park as one of the jewels on the crown that is Castle Rock’s excellent parks system,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Brauer. “It’s affirming to receive these outside recognitions that Festival Park is a special place within our region, which all of the residents who have shared Festival Park with family and friends already knew.”
