If you love spending time outdoors, and have time to give two Tuesday mornings per month from March through October, Douglas County may have just the volunteer opportunity for you.

Join the County’s volunteer trail crew and help preserve such scenic locations as Dawson Butte, Spruce Mountain, Lincoln Mountain and Columbine Open Space.

Whether you are a seasoned pro at trail maintenance, someone yet to groom your first trail or someone looking for the perfect team-building experience for you and your co-workers, the County’s volunteer trail crew has space for you.

County staff will provide volunteers “on the trail” training and mentoring. In addition to learning the ins and outs of corridor clearing, tread work and water diversions, this will also include learning about plants, wildlife and other things encountered on the trail.

For those interested in joining the volunteer trail crew, an open house is scheduled from 10 – 11 a.m. April 11 at Dawson Butte Open Space at 1753 Tomah Rd. in Castle Rock. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by April 9 to aknopp@douglas.co.us as space is limited. The open house will be outdoors, so please dress accordingly.
