Adventure seekers can soon get a bird’s-eye view of the Town thanks to a new amenity planned at Philip S. Miller Park.
Town Council approved last week a lease agreement with Royal Gorge Zip Line Tours. The company will be building a zip line at the new park. The zip line is set to open, with limited services, this fall, and is planned to be fully operational in spring 2015.
The Town has no financial investment in the zip lines. The lease agreement grants the Town 5 percent of the gross revenues.
The new amenity, to be named Castle Rock Zip Lines and Aerial Trekking, will have three different features for residents. The zip line tour will have nine different courses of zip lines as long as 1,000 feet. Daredevils will reach speeds of more than 50 miles per hour and get incredible views of local scenery.
The Aerial Trekking Timber Park will be a family challenge course. The self-paced course will have both an easy and difficult route. It will be a great family, or team-building, exercise that will both entertain and challenge children and adults.
Additionally, a Dual Race Zip will be featured in the completed amenity. This course will be designed with competition in mind. Participants will take off two-at-a-time and will race to the bottom of the course. Form, and minimizing wind resistance, will play a big role in a racer’s success.
The Castle Rock Zip Lines and Aerial Trekking will be the Town’s first adventure-based recreational opportunity. It is expected to draw participants from around the state.
Residents will be offered a significant discount to enjoy the zip line course. Prices for residents, depending on the course, will be between $13.20 and $64.90 for the full nine-course tour.
